RTW

21st February 2024

Today Mrs Wickham visited our classroom to speak to us about the NSPCC campaign PANTS. PANTS helps children understand that their body belongs to them, and they should tell someone they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried. We learnt that our pants and what is in our pants are private

P - Privates are private
A - always remember your body belongs to you
N - No means no
T- Talk about secrets that upset you
S - Speak up

This half term every time your child reads 4 times in a week they will receive a raffle ticket which will go into a draw. You need to sign your child's reading diary in order for this to count. The prize includes a £20 ASDA gift card as well as other goodies.

The more you read, the more chances of winning!

8th February 2024

Instead of a reading book, children have come home with homework today to complete over the half term. If children complete these and bring them in after half term they will receive their homework dojo.

Also, even though children have not had a shared reading book or a Little Wandle book, you can still enter in any books the children read at home or that you read to them. I have attached an example.

Also, please feel free to use these links to various games.

Phase 3 Tricky Words Song Say Hello To

Tricky Words and Sight Words Song

We are working hard on learning our tricky words. Tricky words are words that cannot be segmented and blended - we just need to know them.

Over the next week, as part of the children's homework, we would like the children to practise reading and writing the tricky words. Please feel free to send us any photos of the children practising or even their work if they write them also. This will go towards their homework dojo for next week.

I have attached the tricky words and why they are tricky. We use the following songs to help reinforce them.

This week in English we have been reading ‘Super Milly’. We have been making predictions and ordering the story. We have had our superhero message centre on the writing table - which the children have loved. In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and have continued our learning in the water tray and on the Maths table.

We have been invited to take part in the Young Writers Competition. This is an exciting art project that children will be invited to draw their whole family, their favourite person or even their pet. It’s a fab way to open a discussion about different family structures. We have started to look at this on the creative table. There are some amazing prizes up for grabs including the children’s artwork being published in a book!

Super Milly And The Super School Day by Stephanie Clarkson (HD) | #Storytime with Anusha

This week we are reading the story 'Super Milly and the Super School Day'. We will be focusing on this book within our Literacy Lessons, so if you would like to share this story with your child using the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMs5dOUDvbA

Remember to write it in your reading diary if you do watch it, as it will go towards your 4 reads!

A brilliant 13 children read 4 or more times this week so have gone home with a treat 🍬

Well done to George and Lottie for gaining the most dojos over the week 👍

Azalea has received her 30 book prize 📚

And 2 out of 5 days this week we had 100% attendance. For the last 2 weeks of this half term I have set the children a challenge to be in school every single day and they will get a prize on the final day of term. The children have chose the prize so fingers crossed we can do it

It may be a short half term but we are still very busy little bee’s in RTW. This week we have started to look at our new project ‘Long Ago’. We have began looking at the words, past, present and future. We have been doing this by remembering what day it was yesterday, what day it is today and what day it will be tomorrow. In Maths we have explored the number zero, where this comes in a number line and how we can represent numbers from 0-5 in lots of different ways. We have updated our Art Gallery with our directed drawings of a Spring blossom tree. ✍️

Well done to Benjamin, Maja and Carolina for getting their 30 book prizes 📚

Jot and Maja received the class awards this week 👏

Maja and Noah received the most dojos 👍

Have a restful weekend ready for another fun week

This half term we will be starting our new project 'Long Ago'. We will be learning about how we have changed, as well as our families. Please can we ask for photos of grandparents or parents when they were babies to help support with this. They can be sent over Class dojo to make things easier. We have also started learning phase 3 phonics, on Monday's I will be sending home a sheet as well as tricky words to help support children.

Keep Stoke Smiling

We were visited by the Stoke City Community Trust to deliver their Keep Stoke Smiling initiative. We learnt all about the different kinds of teeth are what we use them for as well as the importance of brushing our teeth. We also learnt about the traffic light system and which foods have a lot of sugar in and which are better for you.
All the children were given a toothbrush and toothpaste to take home with them 🦷

This project teaches children about the environments that they share with others, including their homes, school and places in the local community.

This interest-led project teaches children about the technology that is part of their daily lives and how machines help us. The project gives children the opportunity to build and create marvellous machines.

Diwali Dance Workshop

This project teaches children about how they have grown and changed since they were babies and how life in the past was different from today.
