Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

This is the best place to be to get a snapshot of the fantastic things the children have been up to this year! Whether it's been exploring King Minos' terrifying labyrinth or incriminating Mr Bilson in a terrible crime, the children have been inspired to produce a wonderful range of work across the whole curriculum.

Enjoy!

What learning looks like in Year 5

Aboriginal Art! As part of our Topic 'Australia', we invited parents in to help us to create some traditional Aboriginal dot painting. We used earthy colours and the ends of paint brushes to create the desired effect.

Delightful Didgeridoos! We were treated to a wonderful WOW activity that involved being taught to play the Australian instrument, the didgeridoo. Some of us were better than others it has to be said! We also made our own instruments shaped like a boomerang.

It's a knockout! As part of our Topic 'Groovy Greeks', we learnt all about the ancient Greek Olympics. Here, the children are trying out their boxing skills.

Theseus the Brave! After exploring the terrifying labyrinth (built at the back of the stage by the year 5 teachers), we acted out the story of Theseus and The Minotaur.

Break in at Burnwood! A terrible crime was 'allegedly' committed by friendly teaching assistant and all round good egg Mr Bilson back in April. It is alleged that Mr Bilson broke into the school and stole Miss Coates' beloved skeleton. Mr Bilson left a series of clues which we had to investigate. We then turned from detectives into journalists, reported live from the scene and wrote a newspaper article about the terrible event!

Human Table Football! The year 5 girls took part in a real life table football match against The Willows. Great fun!
